Hands on Approach to Viscosity
Every student was given a glass of water, a popcorn kernal, a spoon and access to an
icecream pail full of sugar. The students were asked to drop the kernal in a solution of
only water and observe the results. The students were then asked to add sugar to the
solution and observe what happened when the kernal was then dropped into the solution. The
kernal slowed down. Everyone loved this experiment very much. The entire situation was very
sticky.
Explanation for teacher: The greater the density the greater the viscosity.
