The resonance or natural frequency of a pendlum system is determined simply by the length of the string.

We can caltulate this natural frequency with the following equations:

f = 1/T

T = 2pi*L/g^1/2

For example, we will use a playground swingset as an example. The length of the chain is approx. L = 3.5 meters, and

g = 9.81 meters/second.

The period, T, is approx. 3.75 seconds. We get for our frequency:

f = 1/T = 1/3.75 sec

f = 0.267
