Demonstration
Procedure:
1)
I begin the demonstration by playing music through a speaker,
the sound energy is picked up and transformed into electrical signals by the
transmitter and carried through the fiber optic cable to the receiver where it
is played through a speaker.
2)
I then cut through the cable to show how the sound disappears.
When the ends of the cut cable are brought together again, the sound returns.
3)
Next, I turn the music off and place a mirror over the speaker.
I shine a laser onto the mirror so that the reflection of the laser appears on
the ceiling. I then pluck the strings of a guitar near the transmitter. The
laser vibrates rapidly as it does in a laser light show. This is a
visualization of the sound waves.
