The Physics of Sustainable Electricity Generation

Brainstorming and Discussion

Here are some questions that could be asked in order to get the students thinking about what they know about electricity and how it is generated. I've included some examples that I've gotten from different classes, and some that I think are important to get the students' thinking going in the right direction.

  1. What is electricity used for?

  2.
  3. Why is electricity important to you?

  4.
  5. Where does electricity come from?

  6.
  7. What are some different kinds of power plants?

  8.
  9. Do any of these types of power plants have problems with pollution or resource depletion? Which ones and what are the problems?

  10.
  11. Can you think of any ways of generating electricity that don’t cause as much pollution or that don’t use up resources? What are they?
