Lesson Plan: Grade 9/10 Electronics Class
Lesson: ~30 minutes
1. Introduction of Ohm’s Law and definitions of current, voltage, resistance
2. Introduce Kirchhoff’s current and voltage laws
3. Series Circuits
4. Parallel Circuits
5. Introduction of the light bulb
6. Power
7. Bulbs in series demonstration
8. Bulbs in parallel demonstration
9. Explanation of the non-linearity of light bulbs
10. “Memory Bulbs” demonstration
11. Conclusion of lesson
12. Tutorial on using a voltmeter, explanation of breadboards
Student Experiments: ~30 minutes
Materials required for student experiments:
- breadboard
- 3 100Ω resistors
- Voltmeter
- 9V battery
The students will measure voltage for 1, 2, and 3 resistor circuits set up in series and parallel. They will calculate the effective resistances of the circuits and determine the current through the resistors. They will be provided with a worksheet to fill out.
