THE PHYSICS OF TIMEKEEPING

Lesson Plan & Slides

Lesson Plan

The lesson plan for this presentation is relatively straightforward

  1. Ensure that you have each of the demonstrations constructed and working ahead of time
  2. Create a Teacher account on Socrative using the link below and set up the Quiz containing the multiple choice questions found in the slides (shown above or at the link below)
  3. On the day of the presentation, set everything up at the front of the room and project the slides onto the board
  4. Have the students log into your Socrative session before the presentation begins (I recommend creating a QR code for the session that they can scan and having the code written on the board)
    1. Note that you will also want to change the information on slide 15 with the new Socrative QR code and/or room code
  5. Then, go through the presentation as normal (Note you may want to change the speaker profile at the beginning from my info to yours)
  6. As you go through the slides make sure to check for understanding as you go as some of the topics are a bit more advanced than what most students have learned to this point
  7. When you reach a Socrative question, take a moment to let them converse with their peers and come up with an answer to the question before closing the poll, then discuss the answers with them afterwards
  8. When you reach a Demo slide, perform the appropriate demonstration as written in the "Running the Demo" section of each of their respective webpages and try to touch on the points from the "Talking Points" sections
  9. At the end of the presentation, I recommend opening up the floor to questions

Slide Information

The PowerPoint slides are available for download HERE or as a PDF HERE.

Please note that within the PowerPoint there are multiple choice questions that make reference to a service called Socrative. Socrative is a free polling service found HERE and can be used to poll the class on multiple choice questions for various presentations including this one. You will need to set up the questions yourself with your own account, though doing so is relatively straightforward.
